Living Memory is being presented by Abel Contemporary Gallery and features a series of paintings on paper plates.
The paper plate(s) came into play after moving into a very small downtown studio apartment, in which space was a major issue. The kitchen quickly became the studio, the plates became the large, imaginary canvas, and coincidentally, became the ten paintings featured in Living Memory.
Paper Plates are glimpses of what we use and abuse. They possess the honesty of representational painting, and the mysticism of abstraction. They are the haunting things that keep you up at night. The plates hold the mess, host the party, and portray the unique associations of love and loss.
